How to access and use Photoshop AI generative fill

When you want to remove an element, make a selection over where you want the element removed, click generative fill, then generate without entering a text prompt. This lets Photoshop know that you don’t wish to add anything; you only want to fill the selection with a similar look as the surrounding image pixels. It’s a great way to clean up photos with undesirable elements. Here’s what our image looks like after Photoshop fills in the blank areas of our canvas. Also note that Generative Fill is creating results at the same resolution as the original photos. This is in contrast to most systems, including Firefly on the web, where the generated images are low resolution, typically 1024 by 1024 pixels. All of the variations are contained in a new type of layer, the Generative Layer, that also includes a mask for the area you selected.

According to Adobe, there is no need to type a command such as ‘Remove person’ as a prompt when using Generative Fill, but in the end, typing that prompt gave us the result we wanted. Note, though, that while Photoshop returned one variation without a person (see below), it also created two variations that still included people. You can fine-tune the Generative Fill dialog box settings to achieve the desired result. Scale, Color Adaptation, and Texture Adaptation allow you to customize the generated content. Experiment with these settings to find the perfect balance that seamlessly integrates with your image.

This time I had to click Generate a few times before getting a result I liked, but Generative Fill did finally give me exactly what I was looking for. And in the Properties panel, I’ll enter a different prompt for the right side. I’ll try for something mysterious, like island shrouded in fog.
